ACROSS AMERICA — Uncocked and loaded air rifles that unexpectedly discharge, kids’ battery-operated ride-on toys that don’t stop and E. coli-contaminated ground beef sold nationwide are among a few of this week’s recalls.

Below is a roundup of the week’s major recalls from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Loaded, Uncocked Crosman Air Rifles Can Unexpectedly Discharge

Uncocked and loaded Crossman air rifles can discharge unexpectedly if jolted or dropped, posing an injury hazard. Crossman, which is recalling 2,500 of the guns sold nationwide, said one air rifle unexpectedly discharged, but that no one was injured.

The affected air rifles were sold from March 2022 to March 2024 at Best Hardware, True Value, Service Star and Sportsman’s Guide stores nationwide, as well as online. Consumers who bought the recalled air rifle should stop using it and contact the manufacturer for information on how to return it for a refund, either as a store credit or refund check.

Crate & Barrel Recalls Cribs That Can Cause Baby To Fall

Crate & Barrel is recalling certain of its Hampshire Cribs because the mattress support pins can become loose and allow the mattress to fall, posing a fall hazard to children. The company has received 12 reports of such incidents, with no injuries reported.

The recall involves cribs, sold in blush, olive, white, gray and natural brown with specific SKU numbers. They were sold online from June 2022 to November 2023 for between $600 and $800.

Consumers should immediately stop using them and contact Crate & Barrel for a free repair kit or full refund.

Sports retailer JAKKS Pacific has recalled about 17,500 children’s Mario Kart 24V Ride-on Racers after getting reports of 65 reports that accelerators stuck after becoming clogged with debris. Fifteen of the vehicles crashed into permanent structures, resulting in one injury, a chafed hand, JAKKS said.

The vehicles are red, white and blue in color with the letter “M” in the center of a white circle on the front of the vehicle. The recall applies only to certain date codes, none of which are currently on the market.

Consumers should immediately stop using the toy and contact JAKKS Pacific for a free repair kit, which includes a replacement accelerator pedal with installation instructions.

Public Health Alert Issued For Ground Beef That May Contain E. Coli

The Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert for ground beef packaged by Greater Omaha Packing Company may be contaminated with E. coli. A recall wasn’t requested because the products are no longer available for purchase, but regulators said people who may have the frozen the beef should ve aware that it may not be safe to eat.

The products were produced on March 28 and have a “use/freeze by” date of April 22. Affected products and labels are found on the agency’s website. They were shipped to retailers and locations nationwide.

The packing company told regulators the product had been put on hold after it tested positive for the bacteria, but some of it inadvertently was used to produce ground beef that was shipped nationwide. The products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for a refund.

There have been no confirmed reports of illnesses associated with eating the ground beef. Anyone concerned they may have been sickened should go to the doctor.

ConSup North America is recalling approximately 85,984 pounds of ready-to-eat sliced prosciutto ham produced in Germany without a safety inspection equivalent to the process used in the United States.

Certain lots of the products sold from Sept. 23, 2023, and March 6, 2024, have been recalled. They were distributed to retail establishments in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Federal regulators said there have been no confirmed reports of illnesses by people who have eaten the prosciutto, but anyone concerned should go to the doctor.

Kids’ Bike Helmets Sold Exclusively By Temu Pose Risk Of Head Injury

About 200 multipurpose children’s bike helmets sold exclusively by the online retailer Temu and imported by Chau River Sports Outdoors have been recalled because they do not meet federal safety regulations for bicycle helmets.

Federal regulators said the helmets aren’t strong enough to protect bicyclists in the event of a crash, posing a risk of head injury.

Consumers who have purchased the helmets should stop using them and contact Chau River Sports Outdoors for a full refund. To receive that, they should destroy the helmet by cutting off the straps and send photos to the onsite messaging system.
