PHILADELPHIA, PA — Opening Day for the Atlanta Braves will be postponed until Friday due to rain forecast Thursday in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the team announced Wednesday.
The first pitch for the Braves bout against the Philadelphia Phillies is slated to start at 3:05 p.m. Friday, the team said on X, formerly Twitter. The Phillies play at Citizens Bank Park.
The start of the 2024 MLB season opened with a matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres in Korea.
All 30 MLB teams were scheduled to play Thursday, and the season is set to continue through Sept. 29.
The Braves Opening Day roster was projected Tuesday to see Sean Murphy and Travis d'Arnaud at catcher and Matt Olson at first baseman, MLB writer Mark Bowman wrote. Ozzie Albies was slated to fill the role of second baseman, with Austin Riley at third baseman.
Pitchers were projected to include Max Fried, Spencer Strider, Charlie Morton, Chris Sale and Reynaldo Lopez.
Bowman said rosters would not be final until Thursday morning.
The Braves last saw the Phillies in October 2023, when the Phillies shut the Braves out of the NLDS with a 3-1 lead in Game 4.
The National Weather Service predicted Wednesday rain and patchy fog in Philadelphia.
