Description

GEORGIA — Some Planters peanuts distributed in Georgia and four other states are being recalled due to possible Listeria contamination, according to a notice released Friday.

The Minnesota-based Hormel Foods Sales voluntarily recalled a limited number of these products, which were produced in April.

"Our commitment to food safety remains our utmost priority. A full investigation is currently underway to determine the potential source of the contamination," Hormel said in the notice.

The following products were recalled:

  • Planters 4-ounce Honey Roasted Peanuts, UPC 2900002097, Best If Used By April 11, 2025
  • Planters 8.75-ounce Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts, UPC 2900001621, Best If Used By April 5, 2026

The company said the products were shipped to Publix distribution warehouses in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina, as well as Dollar Tree warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and occasional fatal infections in young children, frail or older people and people diagnosed with weakened immune systems, the company said.

People considered healthy can develop short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, the company said.

Miscarriages and stillbirths can result from a Listeria infection, the company said.

As of Friday, the company said there have not been any reports of illness related to the recall. All impacted retailers and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have been notified, the company said.

Purchasers of the products can discard them or return them to the store for an exchange or full refund, according to the notice.

Anyone with questions can contact Hormel Foods Customer Relations or call 1 (800) 523-4635.
