ACROSS AMERICA — Quilts that could contain needles. Zipline kits that could see the cable snap. Speakers that can overheat, melt and burn people. And bottles that could poison.

These were just a few of the products recalled this week.

As Patch previously reported, product recalls across U.S. industries reached a five-year high in 2023, according to the latest "State of the Nation Recall Index" report by Sedgwick.

Below is a roundup of major recalls from this week from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Thousands Of Zipline Kits Recalled; 9 Hurt In Falls After Cable Break

About 6,600 zipline kits sold on Amazon.com were recalled this week because the stainless-steel cable can break, causing the user to fall, federal regulators said.

The recall involves Jugader Zipline Kits containing a 160-foot cable wire, a blue trolley, and a hanging plastic seat.

The company has received at least 20 reports of the cable breaking, resulting in nine injuries — including cuts and a broken clavicle, regulators said.

The kits were sold between March 2020 through June 2023.

Broken Needle Pieces Found In Quilts, Shams; 3 Jabbed

More than 11,000 quilts and shams were recalled this week after federal regulators said three people were jabbed by pieces of broken needles — including one that broke the skin on an unsuspecting consumer's hand.

This recall involves Red Land Cotton quilts and quilted shams that were sold in stores and online at redlandcotton.com and amazon.com from May 2023 through February 2024, federal regulators said.

1,600 Bottles Recalled That Put Kids At Risk Of Burns Or Poisoning

About 1,600 bottles were recalled this week after federal regulators said they do not meet child-resistant requirements for closures, and put kids in danger of burning or poisoning.

This recall involves BRS portable liquid fuel bottles sold individually. They were sold on Amazon from October 2018 through December 2023.

No injuries have been reported.

251K Mini Speakers Recalled That Could Catch Fire, Burn People

About 251,000 mini speakers were recalled this week after federal regulators warned the devices' lithium-ion batteries could overheat, catch fire and burn people.

This recall involves the Yoto Mini, a portable connected screen-free speaker intended for children ages 3 to 12.

While no injuries have been reported, the company has received at least six reports in the U.S. of the speaker overheating or melting.

The speakers were sold online at us.yotoplay.com, Amazon.com, Target.com and maisonette.com, and in toy and gift stores nationwide from November 2021 through April 2024.

Fischer Sports Recalls Junior Ski Boots Due to Fall Hazard

Over 1,000 child-sized ski boots were recalled after federal regulators warned the boot could malfunction, causing the user to fall.

This recall involves RC4 50, RC4 60, and RC4 65 Junior Ski Boots in sizes 21.5 to 27.5. The boot cuff can rotate, leading the lock mechanism to malfunction and cause the user to fall.

While no injuries have been reported, the company has received one report of the boot cuff rotating.

The boot was sold at ski gear stores nationwide and online at the company's website and other websites from October 2022 through February 2024.

500K Bicycle Stem Raisers Recalled That Could Cause Riders To Fall

About 500,000 bicycle stem raisers were recalled after regulators warned they could shift and cause the handlebar to shift unexpectedly, causing the rider to fall.

This recall involves Delta Cycle and Dimension Stem Raisers with the model numbers TD3318B, TD3318S, TD3418B, and TD3418S for the Delta Cycle brand, and SM1977 and SM1979 for the Dimension brand.

The company received one report of the equipment shifting during use. No injuries were reported.

The stem raisers were sold at REI and bicycle shops nationwide and online at Designbydelta.com and Amazon.com from January 1998 through January 2024.

Thousands Of Commercial Treadmills Recalled Again That Can Catch Fire

About half a million commercial treadmills were again recalled after one reportedly caught fire inside a gym — after an initial 2022 recall in which 58 incidents were reported.

This recall involves about 9,700 Matrix Fitness T1xe, T3x, and T3xm treadmills.

Matrix Fitness received another reported fire inside a fitness facility since the last recall, in which the treadmill’s power cord and socket sparked, smoked, and/or melted. Seven reportedly caught fire, with two resulting in property damage.

No injuries have been reported.

The treadmills were sold at Johnson Health Tech North America and Johnson Fitness & Wellness stores nationwide from March 2018 through January 2024.
