QUITMAN, GA β€” A Brooks County mother was found dead in a yard, and one of her three children was injured, after a dozen of their neighbor's dogs recently attacked them, per authorities and media reports.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Courtney Williams, 35, was found dead around 4:45 p.m. Thursday in the yard of her Webster Road home in Quitman.

Deputies were responding to a complaint of multiple juveniles being attacked by a dog when they found her, the GBI said.

"When deputies arrived, they encountered several aggressive dogs on the property," the GBI said in a news release. "It was determined that an individual had already taken several minors to a local hospital."

Williams, a stay-at-home mom, died trying to save her three children from the pack of dogs, her sister-in-law told USA Today. Crystal Cox told the outlet the children had just gotten off of the bus when the dogs attempted the attack.

The GBI did not identify the children; however, USA Today reported the siblings were a 10-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy.

The 12-year-old who shoved his sister away from danger was injured in the attack, the news outlet reported. Their brother was able to flag a man down for help; however, Williams did not survive the attack, the outlet reported.

Cox shared photos of the child's injuries, as well as a photo of Williams, via Facebook. She said the child was badly hurt and in pain.

The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of Williams' death, authorities said.
