ATLANTA, GA — Georgia's bout with scorching heat continues as another heat advisory is in effect Monday for several counties in the Atlanta region.

Last week, at least two heat advisories were issued for the Peach State amid storms. This week, Georgia is set to follow a similar pattern.

The National Weather Service's Peachtree City office issued the heat advisory for Barrow, Bartow, Cobb, Clarke, Cobb, Cherokee, DeKalb, Muscogee, Douglas, Fayette, Hall, Henry, Forsyth, Paulding and Gwinnett counties among several others. The advisory will expire at 8 p.m. Monday.

Meanwhile, the weather service's Jacksonville office released a heat advisory for southeast Georgia.

Parts of central and east central Georgia could experience heat indices of at least 105 degrees, including metro Atlanta and the Columbus area, weather officials said.

They added daily scattered thunderstorms are also in the forecast starting Monday. Locally heavy rainfall and frequent lightning could be hazards with strong storms.

The high temperature Monday is 94 degrees in metro Atlanta and 96 degrees in Columbus. On the coast, Savannah is expected to reach a high of 91 degrees.

Heat indices from at least 100-105 are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Each day this week, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected to drop into central and east central Georgia. The chances of severe weather are low, with potential timing putting the storms in the afternoon and evening hours.

The forecast in Georgia fell in line with other parts of the South on Monday.

Multiple heat advisories were issued in neighboring state Florida while Birmingham, Alabama, and Jackson, Mississippi, had their own heat advisories amid 90-plus degree predictions.

Parts of Georgia were slightly cooler than some portions of Tennessee, with a high of 97 degrees forecast for the bordering state capital of Nashville.
